The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition

Grades 3-12
Saturday, September 7th, 12-5pm
Auditionees must reserve a vocal audition slot, and plan to attend one dance call, either 12-12:45pm or 2:30-3:15pm.

Sunday, September 8th, 12-5pm

Production Dates:
Saturday October 26th, 3 & 7:00pm
Sunday October 27th, 3 & 7:00pm
Monday October 28th, 10am
Tuesday October 29th, 10am

Rehearsals:
The first rehearsal will be held Monday, September 9th, 4-7pm, with a mandatory parent meeting 4:00pm – 4:20pm.

Rehearsals will generally be held 3-4 times per week, typically 4-7pm weeknights or 1-4pm weekends. Not all performers will be called to every rehearsal, and students will be excused to attend their SOPA classes and lessons. Other student conflicts will be taken into account when rehearsals are scheduled.

Please note that there is a $250 tuition fee due at the first rehearsal. This is discounted to $200 for students enrolled in Fall 2024 SOPA classes or lessons.

Materials to Prepare:

  • One minute of a musical theatre song that suits your voice, not from The SpongeBob Musical, with an accompaniment track on a personal device or emailed to sopa@metropolisarts.com.
  • Come dressed appropriately to move and dance
  • You may be asked to cold read from the script

Show Description:

Plunge into this stunning all-singing, all-dancing, dynamic stage show! When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. With lives hanging in the balance and all hope lost, a most unexpected hero rises up. The power of optimism really can save the world!

The SpongeBob Musical is based on the beloved animated series created by Stephen Hillenburg and features a book by Kyle Jarrow, with original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I., and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics are by Jonathan Coulton, with additional music by Tom Kitt. The musical production was conceived by Tina Landau.

An exciting new musical featuring irresistible characters and magical music, this deep-sea pearl of a show is set to make a splash with audiences young and old. The future is bright, the future is bold, the future is The SpongeBob Musical.

AUDITIONS

Holiday Cabaret 2024

Grades 4-12
Friday November 1, 4-7pm at Metropolis on the 2nd floor
*If you are unable to attend this date, please contact the school office (sopa@metropolisarts.com) to discuss other options

  • Vocal auditions are scheduled in 5-minute increments, and will be held at Metropolis
  • A dance call for all students will be held from 5:15-5:45pm the same day

Vocal Audition:

Please prepare 32 bars (up to 1 minute) of an up-tempo song and 32 bars (up to 1 minute) of a ballad. Holiday music is preferred – your audition song(s) may even end up in the show! You must bring your own karaoke trax on a mobile device; there will not be an accompanist present. You may email trax 24 hours in advance to sopa@metropolisarts.com for easier playback.

Dance Audition:

Come prepared with any type of dance shoe or gym shoe and clothes
you can easily move in for a brief dance/movement audition.

Rehearsals: Fridays 4-7pm 11/8, 11/15, 11/22 | Sundays 1-4pm 11/3, 11/10, 11/17, 12/1

Dress Rehearsal: Saturday, December 7th, 9am-12pm

Performance: Sunday, December 8th, 7pm

Metropolis School of the Performing Arts invites you to The Best Time of the Year: Holiday Favorites, an original cabaret performance written by Metropolis Director of Education Tiffany Gates and Voice Instructor Nathan W. Brown.

The cabaret includes seasonal favorites, including songs like “The Christmas Waltz,” “Let It Snow,” “Nuttin’ for Christmas,” “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” and more.
