Metropolis is currently seeking a dynamic and customer service-oriented individual to join the part-time Audience Services staff. Candidates should possess strong skills in both box office and front of house management. Associates will receive training in high level customer service, box office operations, and house management procedures.


BOX OFFICE ASSOCIATE (Daytime/Evening/Weekends)

· Assist patrons with ticket purchases in person and over the phone.

· Provide information about Metropolis and downtown Arlington Heights in person, over the phone, and via email

· Knowledge and navigation of usual Arts-People functions: selling tickets, processing gift certificates, taking payment, etc.

· Maintaining the appearance of the box office, lobby, coat room and restrooms.

· Providing superb customer service to all patrons.

· Reporting and cash handling.

· Coordinating duties as assigned by the Audience Services Manager and Supervisor, along with other associates to ensure all projects are completed in a timely manner (i.e. processing donation letters, organizing mailings, etc.)

· Other duties as assigned.


HOUSE MANAGER (Daytime/Evening/Weekends)

· Providing superb customer service to all persons who enter the theater and lobby.

· Managing and maintaining the appearance of the theater, lobby, coat room and restroom areas.

· Overseeing public safety and emergency procedures as needed.

· Completing performance reports during every shift.

· Organizing program booklets and stuffers before and after shows.

· Setting up and taking down of tables and chairs, as needed.

· Supervising volunteer ushers.

· May need to lift up to 40 pounds.

· Communicating and problem-solving with front of house and production staff.

Education Production & Camp Coordinator

Department: Education - Metropolis School of the Performing Arts
Work Type: Full time; exempt
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 10am-6pm (outside of camp season); occasional other hours as necessary

Roles & Responsibilities:
 - Reports to Education Director 
- Serves as supervisor to all SOPA Production and Camp directors, designers, and staff
- Works with Education Director to:
       - choose/obtain rights for SOPA Production and Camp shows
       - create annual budget for SOPA Production and Camp
       - create and implement policies for SOPA Production and Camp
       - hire and create contracts for directors, designers, counselors and staff for SOPA Production and Camp

- Coordinates SOPA Production and Camp scheduling with MPAC Production Department
- Partners with Education Director and Marketing Department to coordinate marketing materials related to SOPA Production and Camp
- Responsible for coordinating the ordering of souvenirs (t-shirts & photos) for SOPA Production and Camp
- Oversees day-to-day operations for all SOPA Production and Camp programs including fall musical, spring play, and seasonal camps (winter, spring & summer)
        - Includes compiling payroll information for SOPA Production and Camp and submitting to Education                        Director bi-weekly

- Responsible for coordinating payments for designers and monitoring budget
- Oversees all SOPA Production and Camp performances for smooth operation and execution
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of SOPA by offering suggestions to improve the level of student services and participating in work plans as an active team member
- Participates in training and professional development activities, including cross-training within the Education department to provide assistance when needed.
- Performs other tasks as assigned

Educational Requirements:  
- Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience in theatre, theatre production, arts
management, or theatre for youth

Experience Requirements:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle challenging situations calmly and professionally
- Highly organized, independent worker with ability to multi-task and take direction
- Positive, motivated, and easy-going disposition
- Ability to interact and establish a professional rapport with students, parents, faculty and staff

Group Sales Associate/Rental Coordinator

Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, a 329-seat performance venue in downtown Arlington Heights, seeks a Group Sales Associate/Rental Coordinator. This is a part-time position, 25-30 hours a week, with a flexible schedule. The Group and Rental Associate reports to the Audience Services Director and is responsible for initiating, administering and maintaining group sales to theatrical productions, as well as attracting and administering space rentals.


The ideal candidate is motivated, outgoing, highly organized, and committed to excellent customer service. This position will work in the box office, processing group orders and event contracts, as well as reaching into the community, making connections and forming new relationships, building additional sales. The Group and Event Sales Associate will be trained in Metropolis’ ticketing system (Arts-People), and cross-trained on box office procedures.


Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Sales experience and theatre knowledge preferred

  • Computer proficiency a must: experience with Word, Excel, Gmail

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Detail-oriented, motivated, and self-sufficient

  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed

  • Ability to organize and manage schedules, contracts, contacts, etc.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Daily correspondence via phone and email with existing and potential clients

  • Prompt processing of contracts and deposit payments

  • Accurate record keeping

  • Follow up on missed payment deadlines/payment reminders

  • Distribute bus/parking instructions

  • Greet field trip groups on performance days/assist House Manager

  • Outreach via phone/email/in person to attract new sales/clients

  • Present for facility rentals

  • Work with Executive Director and Marketing Director on sales initiatives, e-blasts and media distribution
