Education Director for School of Performing Arts

Position Status:   full-time, salaried
Reports to: Executive Directors
Metropolis Performing Arts Centre is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the heart of downtown Arlington Heights. It houses a 329-seat theater space as well as a full school of performing arts that includes drama, dance, and music lessons. Roles & Responsibilities:
● Serve as leader for the School of the Performing Arts (SOPA), which includes:
o  Represent the school by assisting with and/or attending various community
events
o Foster an environment for all current and prospective students and families to
always feel welcome and valued.
o Maintain a department culture of teamwork.
● Manage (3) full-time staff members and several part-time faculty
● Work with Executive team to ensure the school’s sustainability through growth and
strategic planning
● Prepare and track annual budgets, and other reporting as needed
● Design and develop programming (ie: group classes, private lessons and workshops)
● Work with Marketing, Development, Audience Services and Production departments on
planning projects and event coordination.
● Oversee education team on all daily school operations, including class registration and
scheduling, Community Engagement programs, Fall/Spring school productions, and
seasonal camps.


Qualifications:  
● Bachelor’s Degree in arts administration or similar field required
● Minimum 3 years’ work experience in arts administration or similar field required
● Experience in theatre and/or performing arts education preferred
● Personnel management experience required
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills
● Highly organized, independent and able to meet deadlines
● Proficient computer skills

Executive Operations Director

Metropolis is Growing and Needs an Additional Executive

Do you have a solid business background and a passion for the performing arts?  Then Metropolis Performing Arts Center (MPAC) may be the place for you! Located in downtown Arlington Heights, IL, Metropolis is Northwest Chicago area’s leading venue for high-quality entertainment ranging from a Main Stage subscription series to rock, country, comedy, and cabaret concerts. The complex is home to a 329 seat theater, four classrooms and thirteen music studios.

Metropolis is growing!! We are expanding our staff by adding an Executive Operations Director (EOD) so that our Executive Artistic Director (EAD) can focus on the creative elements of the organization.  The EOD’s day-to-day responsibilities involve managing staff, coordinating operational and strategic elements of IT, Marketing, HR, Accounting/Finance, and Development Departments, along with supervision of the School of Performing Arts.

We are looking for an experienced leader in a non-profit environment who thrives in a fast-paced culture.  More specific requirements of the position include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, (Master’s Degree a plus)
  • A minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated non-profit leadership and management experience with progressive responsibility
  • Practical success in business planning and reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with board members, donors, staff and administrators
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to nurture business growth
  • Strong financial management skills and analytical abilities
  • Previous fundraising and/or marketing experience preferred

Assistant Production Manager of Presented Work

Position: Assistant Production Manager of Presented Work
Position Status: Part-time permanent, 20-25 hours/week
Reports to: Production Manager of Presented Work


Metropolis Performing Arts Centre is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the heart of downtown Arlington Heights. It houses a 329-seat theater space as well as a full school of performing arts that includes drama, dance, and music lessons. We are currently looking for an Assistant Production Manager for Presented Work to assist the Production Manager of Presented Work with a variety of responsibilities.

Responsibilities Include:
- Assist Production Manager of Presented Work in researching, programming, and budgeting artists per season
- Assist Production Manager of Presented Work in contracting and executing contracts
- Advance booked performances
- Assist Production Manager of Presented Work with hospitality and show needs
- Act as day-of contact and liaison for specified presented work performances, which includes advancing and executing contractual obligations per artist
- Other related admin tasks to prepare for and close out shows
- Create and submit payroll files for Presented dept. overhire
- Other tasks as needed to help Presented Manager fulfill their duties


Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree a plus


Experience & Skills Required:
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Professional demeanor, especially when working with artists and agents
- Works well both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Three to five years of experience working in a technical or production capacity in professional theatre environment
- Event production experience a plus
- Business and administrative experience a plus

Assistant Production Manager of Produced Work

Position: Assistant Production Manager of Produced Work
Position Status: Part-time permanent, 20-25 hours/week
Reports to: Production Manager

It houses a 329-seat theater space as well as a full school of performing arts that includes drama, dance, and music lessons. We are currently looking for an Assistant Production Manager to assist the production manager with a variety of responsibilities.


Responsibilities Include:
- Attend production meetings and rehearsals
- Maintain notes and build agendas for all Production Department meetings
- Act as a liaison between the designers and staff
- Prepare contracts and bi-weekly payroll files for cast and crew members
- Coordinate with marketing on promotional materials
- Manage and organize invoices and receipts and their designation per production
- Assist casting with managing auditions
- Apply for the rights to all proposed shows for the upcoming seasons.
- Organize and update licensing files for all shows produced by MPAC
- Assist in researching plays and musicals for inclusion in MPAC season offerings
- Creating strike schedules for all Produced Shows
- Other tasks as needed to help Production Manager fulfill their duties


Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in the area of theater arts a plus, or equivalent experience
