Non-Profit Operational Executive

Do you have a solid non-profit business background and an interest in the performing arts? Then Metropolis Performing Arts Center (MPAC) may be the place for you! Located in downtown Arlington Heights, IL, Metropolis is Northwest Chicago area’s leading venue for high-quality entertainment ranging from a Main Stage subscription series to rock, country, comedy, and cabaret concerts. The complex is home to a 329 seat theater, four classrooms and thirteen music studios.

Metropolis is growing!! We are expanding our staff by adding an Executive Operations Director (EOD) so that our Executive Artistic Director (EAD) can focus on the creative elements of the organization. The EOD’s day-to-day responsibilities involve managing staff, coordinating operations and elements of the Marketing and Development Departments, along with supervision of the School of Performing Arts.

We are looking for an experienced leader in a non-profit environment who thrives in a fast-paced culture. More specific requirements of the position include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience (Master’s Degree a plus)
  • A minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated non-profit leadership and management experience with progressive responsibility
  • Practical success in business planning, budgeting and fundamental knowledge of financial reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with board members, donors, staff and administrators
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to nurture business growth
  • Financial management skills and analytical abilities
  • Previous fundraising and/or marketing experience preferred

Metropolis Performing Arts Centre is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the heart of downtown Arlington Heights. It houses a 329-seat theater space as well as a full school of performing arts that includes drama, dance, and music lessons. We have a collaborative, fast-paced work environment staffed with professionals who love the arts.

Metropolis is currently seeking a dynamic and customer service-oriented individual to join the part-time Audience Services staff. The ideal candidate is outgoing, organized and committed to excellent customer service. Associates will receive training in high level customer service, box office operations, and house management procedures.


BOX OFFICE ASSOCIATE (Daytime/Evening/Weekends)

  • Assist patrons with ticket purchases in person and over the phone.
  • Provide information about Metropolis and downtown Arlington Heights in person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Knowledge and navigation of usual Arts-People functions: selling tickets, processing gift certificates, taking payments, creating reservations, etc.
  • Maintaining the appearance of the box office, lobby, coat room and restrooms.
  • Providing superb customer service to all patrons.
  • Reporting and cash handling.
  • Coordinating duties as assigned by the Audience Services Manager and Supervisor, along with other associates to ensure all projects are completed in a timely manner (i.e. processing donation letters, organizing mailings, opening/closing procedures, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

HOUSE MANAGER (Daytime/Evening/Weekends)

  • Providing superb customer service to all persons who enter the theater and lobby.
  • Maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Managing and maintaining the appearance of the theater, lobby, coat room and restroom areas.
  • Overseeing public safety and emergency procedures as needed.
  • Completing performance reports for every performance.
  • Organizing program booklets and stuffers before and after shows.
  • Setting up and taking down of stage tables and chairs, as needed.
  • Supervising volunteer ushers.
  • May need to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Communicating and problem-solving with front of house and production staff.

Beverage Server

Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, located in downtown Arlington Heights, is seeking to expand our bar staff. Candidates must be Basset-certified in the state of Illinois, as well as complete the state-required Food Handling Certification. Candidates must have reliable transportation. Performances take place Thursday-Saturday evenings & Sunday matinees, with occasional special events Mondays - Wednesdays. Weekend and holiday availability is a requirement for this position. The Metropolis bar serves wine, beer, soft drinks, coffee, tea and water. Bartenders should be outgoing and possess great people skills, as well as be able to work efficiently during high volume show times. The Metropolis bar is cash-only, so math skills and ability to make change on the spot are required. Bartenders are paid a flat rate per shift, as well as any tips that are accrued.
